Classifying Volunteers

In order to extend the privilege to serve our Lord to all, we define our staff and Volunteers fees to take into consideration the country category (citizenship)  of the volunteers and the length or the commitment. The term of commitment help us plan strategies to develop the vision:

By Length of Commitment:

  1. Very Short Term: for commitment between  1 week to 1 months
  2. Short Medium Term: for commitment between 2 months and 6 months
  3. Medium to Long Term: for commitment beyond  6 months


Classifying Volunteers duration of  time committed to Serve daily

* Full Time Volunteers they are consider as YWAMSL staff and are persons who commit to volunteer a minimum of about 6 to 8 hours daily for 5 to 6 days per week They fully contribute to the base's life and activities such as ministries and socials times.

** Part Time Volunteers are expected to participate to ministry in one way or the other 1 to 4 hours daily / weekly or Monthly or other schedule agree on. Part Time can be divided in two group

1- Part Time live in (guest who reside on the ywam run facility) and are also expected help with some basic up keeping of the living environment or

2- Part Time Off Campus are persons living outside a YWAM Centre/facility  but are  expected to participate to ministry in one way or the other 1 to 4 hours daily / weekly or Monthly or other schedule agree on.

Part Time Volunteer are not expected to be part of all ministries but must honor the schedule commitment, participate to our monthly volunteers social gathering and accept our term and Policies like all other volunteers.

Country Category: 

The cost of  Programs and Volunteer fee can make the opportunity less accessible to persons from developing nations. To give the opportunity to many to answer the call to serve, we significantly reduce participation's fees for those from developing Countries. 
YWAM UofN use information supplied by the UN and other sources to ranks countries in three categories.

- Category A Nation - Per Capita Income Average of $12,001 and more (usually North America and Europe)
- Category B Nation - Per Capita Income Average of $5,001 to $12,000 (Medium revenue Counties)
-Category C Nation -  Per capita income of $5,000 and less (usually very poor or developing countries)

Fees  indicated are per person per day or months either in US Dollars or in Local currency (EC$) for Locals.

On campus volunteers fees do not include everything please read the section corresponding for details.

Full Time volunteer can commit between 8 to 10 hours a day for 6 days per week (for single) for ministry or ministry related services. As to Part Time or Guest volunteer, their commitment is flexible and negotiable, between on average 3 to 4 hour a day  for 3 to 6 days per weeks.


If your budget is challenging, we are  willing to discuss with you to see if some written arrangements can be made  to facilitate your service with us as long as you are  committed.

Off Campus Volunteer


What are Volunteer & Staff fees use for

The volunteer or staff fees: contribution made by each volunteer is expected to mainly  help with:
- A Bed to sleep : ( a bed or bunk bed in our dorm style accommodation room or a double bed for couple).
-  Basic ministry related communication : WIFI connection with your own devise using the office Guest WIFI  access while at the ywam base most of the time.
- Community meals taken from time to time once or twice per weeks.

What is not included in volunteer fees

The following are not  covered by your volunteer/guest fees and should be budgeted separately unless we discuss about it specifically:
- Laundry charge and soap : volunteer are free to use the coins operated washing machine, or hand wash. The Local coin fed laundry require about EC$ 5 (US$1.85)  for a washing load of approximately 45 minutes.
- Personal Communication, Transportation, Printing, Photocopies and Snacks. Somme ministry communication are covered but all your personal communications will be your responsibility.
- Medical expenses and personal emergency
Insurances each Volunteer is require to subscribe to a medical insurance of his choice, including repatriation if needed.

-  Meals : You are responsible of your regular meals most of the times; we may at some special occasion have meals together with all volunteers. Depending of what is going on and because we only have one kitchen available most time , on campus guest/volunteers will need to organize  themselves and collaborate to do shopping and have their meals together. To promote fellowship we often arrange to have one meal  

- Special diet meals : we can not provide such either.

- Visa & immigration fee if needed is your responsibility

- Airport Pick Up and Drop off : you need to discuss with us to include this in your fees

Airport pick up and drop off

In addition to the program fees and other personal expenses we normally ask each volunteer arriving or departing Saint Lucia to budget for airport transfer (pick up and drop off)  the round trip  for a small group of about 3 persons  should be about :

US$100  (if your flight arrive and depart via  Hewanorra international, - UVF, 2hours from our base )  

US$ 50 (if flightit arrived via George F.L. Charles Airport - Regional Flights – SLU- 20 to 30 minutes drive from our base).

Let us know if you plan to include it in your program fees /volunteer fee so that we can make arrangement to pick and drop you off .

Volunteers and immigration

In normal circumstances various nationalities entering Saint Lucia as visiting Guest may typically obtain a 6 weeks stay stamp, or in some case until the return date indicated on you flight itinerary.


European Citizen due to the Shengen reciprocity with Saint Lucia can obtain in principle up to 3 months stay stamp at arrival but you will need  to request it and show your  return flight Itinerary at the agent at arrival.

CARICOM citizen can obtain up to 6 months Stay stamp at arrival


We suggest that, if your application to volunteer with us was accepted for short or very short term, you should  travel an enter the country as visiting guest; with your return Itinerary to show the immigration agent your return date.


When your stay stamp is expire you need an extension usually costing about US$ 80 per month.


If you apply as Long term volunteer, a year or more a work permit may be require; YWAM Saint Lucia may only assist by writing to the ministry of social and religious affairs to request an exemption of work permit  if possible. the Process can be long and should be engage before your arrival in the country with the appropriate documents send in by you.


When your Volunteer application is accepted with us, YWAM St. Lucia will notify you and inform you of the paper work to complete etc... Due to administrative delay Long Term Volunteer need to apply few months in advance before the planned  arrival date. 

Other info for volunteers

XCD or EC$ stand for Eastern Caribbean dollars
USD or  US$ stand for United States dollars (in average 1US$= 2.7 EC$)

CARICOM Stand for "Caribbean Community and Common Market"

All volunteer are encourage to speak about their project in their church and  around them to raise extra fund when possible to support the ministry in general.
When to Pay Your Volunteer Fees ? Volunteer fees should be paid preferably in advance before the arrival of the volunteers, if coming for less than a month and in advance per months is staying over two months

NB: we have no refund policy in place for very short term volunteer fees; and the funds receive may be use to prepare your arrival in advance. so ask any questions possible and consider your options before taking your final decision.
